Icons of John the Baptist, John the Forerunner
August 29 is the day which commemorates the Beheading of the Holy Glorious Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist John. We know John as a prophet – the greatest and last prophet of the “Old Testamanet”, who specifically announced the coming of the Messiah, Who was Jesus. We also know how he preached in the wilderness, baptized Jesus Christ, and finally was beheaded on the orders of Herod for censuring the King. Continue reading →

The Dormition | Icon of Hope
Just as we look to Mary’s life for an example, we look to her bodily death – in this Icon – for hope as to where such an example leads us. The hope is in the bodily Resurrection and the life of the age to come. Both are shown in the Icon: the bodily assumption of Mary into Heaven, as well as the commendation of her soul into the hands of Jesus Christ. Continue reading →

The Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God
That Icons draw us into the heavenly realm is miraculous enough; yet because of the faithlessness of people throughout history, God has continued to work miracles through material objects, including Holy Images. This is just one story about one miracle, performed through one single Icon: the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God. Continue reading →
